Two of the ways I include purposeful movement in our day are our group rotations and group read alouds. With COVID being a big concern for their health and safety, students would benefit from having a designated carpet seating with sectioned components to reinforce our social distance protocols and to also provide a more delightful classroom environment. Anyone who knows 1st graders (6-7-year-olds) would understand how difficult it can be for them to remain their distance. That is why a carpet with colorful visuals would be extremely useful to help students remain focused which means I will spend less time redirecting students. The students in my classroom will have the opportunity to have a place where they can all comfortably come together for our special time during the day. I know my kids would definitely appreciate a classroom rug for these reasons!
