As we know, students and adults have struggled emotionally in a variety of ways in response to COVID. Transition back to school and dealing with grief/loss caused by COVID (loss of normalcy, loss of connection, loss of routine and even death for some), has taken an extreme toll on our students. As a school counselor, I am responsible for supporting students academically, career/college and most importantly, their social and emotional well being. Creating a welcoming and warm space for students to come and feel safe to talk and feel support is imperative in these times. I also know that having a comfortable and welcoming space allows me to take care of myself and in turn, be a better school counselor for the students I serve.
