this project will be used for in person learning only. these items will afford our scholars the opportunity to redirect anxious & nervous energy & to focus on instruction. these sensory items affords them the opportunity to be able to have organized or controlled breaks that will also keep the mental stimulation going. i believe that all scholars should be afforded the opportunity of sensory breaks or sensory moments as needed through out the instructional day. I also find that sensory items can also stimulate the minds of our scholars. Not only that, these scholars have started school during one of the most difficult times in education in the past 50 years. With facing a pandemic, having to learn remotely, then hybrid learning now to full in person learning with different protocols & systems in place. unfortunately our new scholars have not yet experienced consistency in their education. i believe these products will help each scholar make their uncertainties about learning a little easier. We also believe that our scholars have gone through a tumultuous time through out the pandemic. many of our scholars have suffered many losses, many to include loved ones (including parents), the loss of their homes, the loss of friends & social connections. Hazelwood is a title one school so we encounter many families who suffer with the lack of finances and resources. with that in mind Hazelwood has become a hub for our families & we provide resources; However i want this project be designed specifically for our scholars to let them know that we have not forgotten about them. Yes they benefit from what we assist the family with but we want to give them something designed specifically with them in mind.
