I am requesting a variety of books for our classroom, Many of these books include characters of different races, cultures, and communities. Representation and exposure to other cultures and people are important. I plan on using the requested books to teach a unit on identity and ourselves through reading and other activities. My Leadership class will pick a book to read, answer questions, and do two projects. One about the main character of the book and one about themselves. These will be "iceberg" projects where they talk about what is observed and not observed. I hope that by reading and doing the projects my students will learn about themselves, others, and how everyone has something going on below the surface.
