The project I am trying to produce with my students is a music keyboard lab. With this lab students will be able to play the keyboard and create music that they would not have had the opportunity to do without this project. Studies show time spent playing the piano/keyboard improves mental health, relieve stress, bolster self esteem. Playing the piano also improves test scores/school performance. Locomotor skills are enhanced as well. As they progress, they will be able to do team and independent work to build musicianship and to be able to practice socialization. First and foremost is to give all students a chance to play keyboards in class without sensory overload. They can control the volume while they play, use headphones to block out other noises and continue to practice without the other distractions. This will enhance the environment not only in the classroom but on the concert stage as well.
