All the positive science learning outcomes that I've had in life involved hands-on experiences. This is the same for my students. My students really enjoy being able to learn about new topics, take great notes, watch awesome complementary videos, and complete creative projects/experiments. The items that are needed for this project will allow them the opportunity to enhance all of these learning methods. Students will transform pizza boxes into awesome "Earths' 5 Spheres Dioramas." Students will use the headphones selected to listen to videos on the 5 spheres. We will complete the lesson as a class and then students will have the opportunity to go back and comb through the information on their own using the headphones. This is where students’ ideas will come from for their diorama. I have a total of about 80 students, so 100 pizza boxes will give students the opportunity to work risk free. If they severely mess up, the extra few boxes will allow them the opportunity to start again. The pencils will be used by students to outline/map out where students want to place important objects inside of their diorama. These objects will represent each of Earths' 5 spheres (ex. trees, rivers, lakes, clouds, rock, ice, boulders, biomes, etc.) The pencils will also be used to explain their project on the poster boards that they are going to create. They will create a draft in pencil using the poster boards being purchased, then make it colorful. Again, the extra poster boards will allow a risk-free experience. Once students have finished creating the poster boards to explain the moving parts in the diorama, they will use the clay to make the real-world objects associated with each sphere, place the objects in the diorama and their project will be complete!
