High Interest differentiated text will pique student curiosity. This helps students pay attention to the text in a way that yields a better opportunity to teach skills and improve reading, even with the most challenged, at-risk students. Giving students material that pique their interests and curiosity naturally supports student engagement that will yield high rewards in skill building. This level of engagement supports learning content and specific skills that ordinarily they would not be motivated to learn. The high interest publications and magazines also come in differentiated levels. This supports choice and inclusion for very low-level, at-risk readers. Many times these students must have a different text because their reading level would not allow them to be able to be engaged with the subject matter they are interested in. The publication for the low-level reader and the publication for the higher-level reader look very much alike. The differences would not be “noticed” at a glance by other students that might call attention to it. This is a rewarding opportunity to meet the needs of every learner in the classroom. Keep in mind, my project is to get high level rewards with high interest text.
