Students will earn Dojo points for specific behaviors, and with these points, they will get to adopt a desk pet! When they earn more points, they will get to purchase food, decorations for their pets' homes, and accessories. Students will have access to their desk pets when in class, and they will retire to the pet hotel when they leave for the day. Thus also keeping their desk pet safe if they are absent the next day. Desk pets are a great tool to encourage students to make positive behavior choices. Positive behavior reduces the number of issues in the classroom, increases student learning and student learning outcomes. Students are able to earn Dojo points when they demonstrate respectful behavior towards another student, use "I" statements, make a positive behavior choice (like using their words instead of their hands), and earn a compliment from another staff member. We will use these desk pets throughout the school year!
