These texts specifically will fulfill a number of Nevada ELA standards, but beyond these, students will also benefit from the tale of Trevor and inspire them to think beyond themselves and treat others with respect. My students have expressed interest with Jurassic Park and we can finish the year with an exciting story that will draw them back into the world of reading after being separated from it during COVID. The most important standard to be addressed is ELA 7RL2: Determine a theme or central idea; the themes of these books are relevant for creating well-rounded, responsible individuals. In addition, comparison of the films and books can build further interest and visualization of these concepts.
