My students have unique needs for their learning that provide different challenges every day. Challenges often seen in my classroom include emotional outbursts. My students can have difficulty with regulating their emotions and small matters can turn into big matters in a few seconds. The sensory table is a vital asset in my room because it allows my students to have a "brain break" and targets their favorite senses. One of my students loves textures while another loves to feel different materials. When one of my students is having a difficult time controlling their emotions, they are allowed a break at the sensory table until we can tackle the problem together, without causing harm to themselves or others. This tool is also AMAZING for fine motor skills, color identifying/sorting, shapes and animal identification and numerous other academic goals we work on every day!
