Many of my students use sensory strategies throughout the day to help them participate in classroom activities and ease transitions around the school building. Sensory processing refers to the way we process the world through 8 sensory systems: auditory, visual, oral, taste, smell, tactile, proprioceptive (muscles and joints), vestibular (inner ear recepters/motion and balance), and interoception (sensation of organs such as bladder and stomach). For those with difficulty with sensory processing, sensory information does not get organized into appropriate responses. These individuals can be responsive, under responsive, or seek sensation in one or more of their sensory systems. These tools will help my students in my therapy room and the classroom. By donating to this project, you are giving my students the sensory tools they need to regulate their sensory processing systems and participate in their classrooms. These tools are a vital part of my day as an speech therapist, which my students use every day. My students will use the parachute in the therapy room to play with peers to work on social skills and to help get them ready to engage with speech. The adaptive seats will help my students remain seated throughout classroom activities to engage in learning. The bubbles will help motivate my students to practice using their language skills to request.
