My students participate with special education classes for recess. These hands-on materials, such as the waffle blocks, help the students work together as a team to build their fine motor and social skills. They will use their higher-level thinking to solve problems and learn to work together while building and using their senses to construct with the water table indoors and outdoors. The materials requested will be used in the water/sand table. Our students have not been with peers for over a year. During the pandemic, they have lost more than a year of socializing with their peers. These materials are perfect for building language and problem-solving skills. The materials will be used by 60 students in both special education and general education indoors and outdoors. As students will be working with the materials in building their structures they will also be building a bridge to make new friends. Some materials will be sent home with some students so they can be successful at home and at school. An example would be the students using the waffle blocks. We know sitting in front of the computer is not the best for learning science. The hands-on science materials will help the students build their language and knowledge of science.
