This material will provide my student with the ability to express, for the first time, his wants, needs, ideas, and even if he's hurt or feeling sick. My student will be able to use this device in his classroom to be able to participate in activities that he currently isn't able to. In my therapy room, we will be able to use it to make requests, express a preference for one activity over another, or express when he's finished with an activity and wants to do something else. Communication is a basic, essential, human right. Right now, despite trying other methods, my student doesn't have a reliable way to communicate. It's also hard to gauge what he's understanding in the classroom and what he needs more help with. By giving him this device and teaching him how to use it effectively, my student will have the beginnings of a whole new world opened to him.
