The literacy intervention system that I facilitate is very targeted to each of my small groups' abilities and levels. I have found that nearly all of my students are missing key skills to dissect a story and comprehend what they are reading. They need reinforcement in the basics of phonics and in the general strategies of identifying character traits, prediction, visualizing story maps, and retelling. I have been frantically searching for resources and printing them out on paper for my students to work on. I have gone through many reams of paper, toner cartridges, ink cartridges, pencils, and erasers. That adds up really fast. I have switched to white boards and dry erase markers but the white boards are cumbersome to lug around from classroom to classroom and the dry erase markers dry up far too quickly. Not to mention all the dust that gets all over the table when you wipe the boards clean!
An iPad and Magic Boards will immediately solve these problems by eliminating the waste on consumables while also eliminating the waste on time.
We will be able to immediately access and download a plethora of worksheets and applications on the iPad to help exercise and strengthen my students' reading literacy skills. There are even fun interactive games that are available to download as well. The Magic Boards will replace our messy white boards and we'll never have to use paper, markers, pencils, or erasers ever again. By using the technology we have at hand, my students will have a more efficient and effective small group literacy intervention experience.
