Many of my students enter kindergarten at such a deficit compared to most of their peers. They can't identify letters and/or sounds, nor do they have a strong oral vocabulary base. They are so far behind at the start of their school careers that is an overwhelming task to catch them up and help them to succeed. Having individual students and small groups have opportunities to learn and practice language skills on the iPad with headphones in rotation would greatly improve their chances. In addition, apps on the tablet would allow for targeting specific skills for individual students and small groups needing similar remediation.
