I am requesting art supplies that will be used to teach my middle-schoolers about the 19th century art movement of Impressionism. We will study the works of famous artists like Van Gogh and Monet. They will learn about the impressionist style of painting and how it allows one to freely create without fear of being perfect. My students often struggle with self-confidence and can be intimidated by activities they are unfamiliar with. For instance, at first, my students were intimidated by watercolors, but once they learned painting techniques, they were surprised by what they were able to create. I would like to build off of this new interest/skill of theirs by having them explore watercolor techniques more. This unit of study will challenge my students to try something new. It will give them more opportunities to create art without fear of making a mistake and to explore another creative way of expressing themselves. I would also like for my students to explore different art materials, such as clay. For my students with special needs, clay has been an important medium. They have shown great interest in sculpting. They enjoy the texture and sensory experience it provides. Thank you for helping my students experience a quality art education that will bring positivity to their lives.
