I work in a special needs classroom with middle school students who know they are preteen/teens and want to be treated as such. Right now our safe space consists of used donated items from old classrooms. We are grateful for free and donated items but a black ripped futon and flattened bean bags aren't the prettiest items to look at. To my students walking into class on the first day of school to a futon couch was amazing, regardless of its appearance. New furniture that looks suitable for teenagers but is appropriate for a safe space would be a blessing. This would help when my students are having a "moment" and need time to cool off from their outburst. They will be able to sit in a safe and bright environment that promotes positivity.
