It is important to me that my students experience a sense of belonging in my classroom. One way to help students feel this sense of belonging is providing books in which they can see people who are like them. This way students can understand their stories matter. In addition, students should also be able to learn about people who are different from themselves in books. Because my students are from diverse backgrounds, having books that represent them and people from other backgrounds is important for their learning, their sense of belonging, and their understanding of others.
