These decodable books will help improve the literacy skills in my first grade classroom in our elementary school. These types of texts (decodable) are proven to be more successful than leveled texts when first learning to read. The science of reading research says students need to practice phonics skills, that have been explicitly and systematically taught, by practicing those skills in a decodable text The decodable books I have chosen for this project will support phonics teaching and will give the students the opportunity to practice those skills in a controlled text in order to be successful readers. The flexible seating will allow students to safely move around the classroom.
