My students are in many ways like all other kids, eager to learn! But with emotional disabilities, regulating their emotions can get in the way of their learning. My plan is to create a flexible seating area with a beautiful calming rug so that being required to sit at a desk isn’t something that gets in the way of their learning. We refer to something called the “green zone” which means the student is ready to learn, happy, calm, content. This is where the most learning will occur. Whether it be reading, writing, or math, students can do their work or listen to the teacher’s lesson from this seating area.
