Creating a resource classroom that says reading matters is critical in motivating students in learning to read, especially when they are anywhere from 6 months to 3 years behind. This can be extremely frustrating for students who are below their grade level peers. By the time students reach third grade, they are no longer learning to read but reading to learn. It is my job to close gaps, and I want students to come into my classroom and feel different. I want them to curl up in the reading corner and associate reading with a cozy feeling...a feeling that will help develop life-long readers! Using multi-sensory resources in the classroom helps engage students and makes learning more memorable. For example, using fidget blocks with letters on them is a great way to help students learn letter sounds, blending, spelling, and syllabication. My goal is that my students enjoy learning and that they leave my classroom with some tricks up their sleeves...strategies they can use when back in their grade-level classroom and when tackling a book independently. I want them to experience success and the true joy that a book can bring!
