These materials will allow students from K-5th to be able to turn our Makerspace into a Nutritional Sciences lab! They will be able to utilize the cooking resources we already have in a way that allows them to take responsibility for the entire process. With these materials, students will work together in teams to set up a cooking class and enjoy the produce from our garden and then quickly and efficiently help clean and put things away so that the space can be better shared between as many classes as possible. Our students strive each day to show that they are Safe, Respectful, and Responsible and these materials allow them to actively model these characteristics. They can make healthy foods, learn a lesson that emphasizes Math, Science, Language Arts, or History, and then work together to clean their space and use their resources wisely. We are lucky enough to have a space where creativity is encouraged, and we want to be good stewards of this space! Research on how other similar programs have been successful has shown me that these items will make the whole process much cleaner and smoother. This allows for more lessons to be taught and for the space to best utilized.
