All of my students have just transitioned from the early intervention program, so this is the first time that they are at school without the comfort and security of a parent. This is why we need to make our classroom as warm, inviting, and comfortable as possible! I plan to do this by creating a calm and cozy reading area. The floor cushions and bean bag poufs requested here will provide comfy, easily sanitized seating options in the reading area for our little learners. These students are Deaf and hard of hearing, and they are emergent bilinguals in American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Discovering the word of books is crucial for all children this age, but none more so than our Deaf kiddos because they will access the English language through the written word. I hope my students will find a sense of calm and safety when surrounded by comfortable seating and beautiful books.
