I have wanted to do a novel study with my class since I started teaching. There is no money in our school's budget for a class set of novels, so I have not been able to fulfill my readers' dreams of reading a novel with me as a group. This class set of books would allow my students to be a part of a touching whole-group experience. This novel is not only an excellent way to teach comprehension and characterization, but also social-emotional awareness. It hits difficult, but important topics and will appeal to a diverse classroom like ours.
