As the technology teacher, I do my best to introduce my students to a large number of computer science concepts. Computer science standards are being emphasized and teachers are expected to not only know about the many different standards, but also teach those standards in a manner that is accessible and interesting for all students. Bill Gates once said, “Technology is just a tool and in terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important.” Working in collaboration with the librarian and classroom teachers, this laptop will be used in a small group station where partners will work together to create and edit videos. Focusing on the NVACS for Integrated Technology K-12, students will work with the teacher to create an original work using a variety of digital tools as a means of personal or group expression (1.CC.B.1, 2.CC.C.1, 4.CC.B.1, 5.CC.B.1). Students will create video book reviews, combining literacy skills from the classroom to create a script, literature skills gained from the library, the technology skills from my class to collaborate on a video that will be shared with other students so they can become more engaged and interested in reading more. This will also help students become more familiar with using video recording hardware and software, the importance of design principles, personal presentation styles, and more.
