Our school has added Dance and Music programs for the first time! While I am so excited to be the school's first dance educator and build a creative outlet for our students, it has come with a lot of challenges. Firstly, dancing with masks on is very difficult, but we must to keep each other safe. The students need replacement masks after each class when their masks get sweaty and wet from moving. They are also more "winded" or out of breath during class because of the masks. So, Gatorade and juices will help them stay hydrated after movement. Our next huge issue is that we do not have a classroom because of lack of space; I currently teach classes in the auditorium which is a central location for the school with constant traffic and distractions making it very frustrating and difficult to engage the students. I would like to bring incentives like snacks to the students to help them focus and be motivated to come to class even with our distracting non-traditional learning space.
