Many of my students struggle with engagement and attention during instruction, possibly as a result of being out of school due to COVID. However, I find that when I’m circulating through class while teaching, or sitting with students, they are much more engaged and more likely to participate. Unfortunately, I’m unable to do this with my current computer/Smartboard set up. I’m tethered by cords to the front of the room when operating my Smartboard, which sets up an “invisible barrier” between myself and my students. Having an iPad with Screen Share would allow me to operate my Smartboard from anywhere in the room, promoting increased student engagement, participation, and accountability. I could also use an iPad as a document camera, projecting my own work, or that of students, right from their desks. This would allow for whole class viewing, discussion, and peer editing. Students could easily use sketch tools on work that is projected to the Smartboard without ever leaving their seats. Teaching with an iPad can increase instructional efficiency along with increased engagement and accountability. iPad teaching will promote learning across all Nevada Academic Content Standards. However, specific examples include ELA.W.7.5, ELA.W.7.6, ELA.W.8.5, ELA.W.8.6, ELA.SL.7.1.b, ELA.SL.7.1.c, ELA.SL.7.1.d, ELA.SL.8.1.b, ELA.SL.8.1.c, ELA.SL.8.1.d, WHST.6-8.5, WHST.6-8.9.
