The students in my Family and Consumer Science 1 class will be learning how to use the sewing machine. They will be constructing stuffed animals using the sewing machine, hand sewing, and button sewing. A lot of students don't have access to get to the store to buy supplies. Others don't have the funds to purchase the supplies. I am looking to get the supplies donated to take the burden off of the students and parents. Most of my students have never sewn before and are very excited to learn how by making a stuffed animal that they will keep as a memory. I have given them a choice of a pig, turtle, dinosaur, bear, angelfish, Scottie dog, iguana, and more. We have the patterns, shears, and sewing machines already in class and would be needing to buy the material, thread, buttons (eyes), stuffing, and fabric markers (to personalize their projects). The school currently has 10 sewing machines that we will pair 2-3 students on a machine to complete the project. I am confident that the students will take what they are learning with this project to help sew items that need to be repaired in the future. This is a wonderful skill to learn for life.
