I have always had dreams of utilizing a video production team comprised of staff volunteers and interested students to create short films, standard operating procedures, and showcase the amazing things we do at our school. The camera that I am requesting is the perfect tool to allow us to create high quality videos that match the high quality of students we have. The pandemic created a vital need to connect with each other digitally; I would like to foster this connection in more profound and unique ways. We will be able to make high quality videos that can support students and families in and out of our school environment. My students have started showing their amazing creativity and talent through creating daily news videos. Every day, we are required to send an email to our lunch staff requesting certain numbers of meal choices. In our class, two students cooperate on a Chromebook while standing in front of the class to deliver their version of the news. We go over a local or global news article then the students summarize it and record the lunch numbers for the staff. My students impress me continually with their creative introductions, transitions to their partner, and humor they put into their performances just like a real news anchor! There are so many great skills that my students are enhancing through this daily exercise. Public speaking, collaboration, teamwork, creativity, confidence building, enunciation, and more! One of the biggest setbacks we face is the quality of our videos and our ability to pick up sound with our Chromebook microphones accurately. With this donation, I will be able to provide not only my class a platform to utilize their talents, but the whole school will be able to benefit from this tool as well!
