The art of oral communication has suffered greatly in the past year. Students came into this school year without the skills to communicate effectively with their peers or teachers. Because of this, my colleagues and I have focused more attention to public speaking this year (SL8.1). The students need more practice with getting up in front of an audience addressing with confidence (SL8.1D). Having a professional lectern to present their research or speeches will help solidify the idea that words do matter, and when presented professionally(SL8.4), THEIR words do matter.
