The materials given to 5th grade students in low-income neighborhoods is often disengaging and culturally irrelevant. The students are not only challenged beyond their academic level, but also brought to boredom by the lack of relatable content. The books would help students see the value and meaning of literature in their lives. A good book has the power to help the reader escape real life, and access to these books would foster a love for reading. These students need the right books to help them improve their comprehension skills, when so many of them do not have the resources or motivation at home. I believe that these books would kickstart the interest in reading that many of my students lack, and would give them an opportunity to learn through exciting content. They deserve to learn through unique and fun experiences, which book can readily offer.
