Since the pandemic, all assignments are required to be on Canvas. Some of my students prefer paper and pencil tasks due to their disabilities. Occasionally, the assignments are in color on Canvas. If we had a color printer in the class, I could quickly print off the assignment for them, and they could see the assignment as intended with color. Many times when essay writing, I color the parts of the essay (ex. hook, thesis statement, topic sentence, evidence, commentary, etc.). If the students have a color copy, they could visually identify the parts of the essay. The scanning feature would allow the students to scan in their handwritten assignments to submit to Canvas. In addition, my students are progress monitored weekly for their reading progress. The results are given in color. From time to time, I like to print off the data for them, so they can see their progress. The colors of the data are different depending on what level of progress the students are at currently. Being able to print this off quickly and in color for the students would encourage them to keep working to achieve their reading goals. Many of my students have ADHD. The use of flexible seating would be helpful in keeping them focused, and productive. Finally, in my literacy program, my students work for rewards! Since they are hungry, growing 8th graders, those rewards are food! They are rewarded for finishing a segment, getting at least an 80% on independent reading book tests. I also pass out gum while they are working because it helps them to stay focused. Thank you for your consideration. My kids are worth it!
