Shaping behaviors to achieve the desired outcome can be achieved using positive consequences. Students who are demonstrating difficulties with following directions and who are not yet able to control their impulsive behaviors impact their learning and the learning of those around them. A common use of reinforcers to reduce maladaptive behaviors provide positive reinforcement. Often the use of sensory modalities helps to impact the nervous system by engaging in functions of behavior and help to focus learning. Focused teaching of social skills and behavior/ emotional regulation can assist with the plan of support for students who are demonstrating difficulties with the return to in-person instruction and the behavioral expectations that come with traditional in-person instruction. The sensory items that were selected will assist in the instruction and with the reinforcement of desired behaviors.
