These materials, whether big or small, will bring my class to life with gamification. Students will be given the opportunity to work in small groups. Through gamification, the students will learn how to work as a team, in addition to solidifying their math knowledge. Some of my ideas include bean bag toss competitions where my students will work math problems as a team and earn points for their correct work. Another popular game is Tumble Tower. My plan is to engage my students with the Tumble Tower game in combination with their math reviews. One of my favorite things to do with my students is give them opportunities to go outside and conduct math experiments. One of these activities includes a distance and time activity using the scooters. Kids will be working actively gathering meaningful data. Gamification helps all special populations, but especially the ELLs because they'll have a chance to talk to others with social and academic vocabulary. My students will be placed in mix ability groups and through the form of peer assistance, my high achieving students will use their leadership qualities to help their classmates that are in need. This strategy is very powerful.
