My students often feel isolated in their struggles to read and write. By bringing them together in a collaborative setting, they'll not only be taught strategies targeted to their individual needs but realize they have a voice worth being heard. I want to bring students together in a collaborative setting where diversity and equality of voice and depiction of characters like themselves can be celebrated—where learning strategies with their peers, targeting their needs, and feeling a sense of community gives them opportunities to be successful. These tables will give my students a space to work with peers who are on the same journey of reaching new heights in the ability to read and write on grade level. The space will also allow them to spread their writing papers out while orally rehearsing with partners, reading their attempts with friends, and editing along with others as they all learn to find a voice through writing for authentic reasons.
