So much growth happens for students when they are allowed frequent opportunities for good, rich mathematical discourse - they are able to share ideas, develop educated opinions, think deeply, and most importantly, make mistakes. Giving my students opportunities to connect, communicate and problem solve together is one of the greatest resources I can provide them. I am piloting a new math curriculum, this year. Although it is rigorous and full of excellent online resources, that's all my students have known for over a year and a half. Their comprehension and willingness for productive struggle have suffered. I am still seeing a need for hands-on, interactive activities and materials. In addition to providing time for whole-group instruction, discussion, and work time, I am seeking funding to purchase daily small-group station materials for my students.
