An important COVID-related learning need is to strengthen the communication and relationship between families and schools. The pandemic has taught us that family support is key and foundational to student success. An Apple iPad would support this need by allowing me to purposefully collect data on students using a variety of assessments and anecdotal notes and communicate this with parents more efficiently and effectively. It is critical for parents to consistently know the progress of their child and ways they can support learning and growth at home. An iPad that can be carried easily around the classroom or at specific learning centers will allow me to gather the needed information about student progress and immediately communicate this information with parents. Additionally, technology, specifically an iPad would not only strengthen communication between students' learning progress and families but it can also be used to accommodate students' various learning styles- students will be more engaged and will help them retain information when used in a one-on-one activity between teacher and student in an engaging way. It provides me the ability to record, save, and share what they have learned during a particular lesson as well as an assessment tool. It can provide immediate feedback to teachers, and most importantly families. Technology tools can help improve communication between home and school, while also enhancing family partnership as the exchange of information is much easier and sharing of resources. The library set included in this project will also support standards R.L.K.10 and R.L.K.2, which help promote early literacy skills for kindergarten students. As these books are shared with students through read alouds, standard RL.K.1. will engage students in active listening by asking and answering questions. The iPad would support this learning as students can engage in activities related to their reading!
