I spend a lot of my work day counseling with kids and meeting with their parents. My school’s demographics reflect a high crime and ethnic minority community. I, myself, had been raised in a similar demographic in another state. I know first hand how intimidated and scared a kid can be, being summoned to any school office. I would like to turn my office into a warm and inviting type of space, an area where kids and parents can comfortably share their thoughts and experiences, a safe space where educators and parents can find sensible solutions to real life student issues. I feel adding a comfortable couch and low calorie drinks for kids and parents, can accomplish my goal. These items will help all involved be more relaxed and comfortable.
