In preparing our students for College and Career and just life in general, there is a huge need for them to be financially literate and understand the value of a dollar. "Setting goals, budgeting, saving, spending, borrowing, using credit — these are just a few types of knowledge, skills and behaviors people need to manage their resources effectively. It also takes 21st century skills such as research, analysis and problem solving to make good financial decisions." Partnering with several coaches we will have students engage in several student centered activities. We will have students compare the cost of creating their own shirt designs for clubs and activities at our school to the cost of several printing options. We will have them factor in the cost of materials, time and intellectual property of their design. We will be able to extend this concept in multiple areas as the potential for comparison is unlimited. Our students will create their own products that they need for their clubs, activities or groups and compare the cost to that of a business made product. The Nevada Department of Education states... Nevada students’ will become college, career, civic, and community ready by achieving the following goals: * Utilize critical thinking skills through the use of thought-provoking questions and creating opportunities to form arguments incorporating evidence in academic inquiry. * Implement and practice the appropriate use of technology to make informed decisions empowering college, career, and civic readiness. * Demonstrate literacy skills through analysis and evaluation of primary and secondary sources while at the same time synthesizing the material and engaging in academic discourse.
