My students have set a great goal to become fluent readers! In order to do this, they need to hear what fluent reading sounds like. They love to listen to stories. During our fluency time, I would like to include a listening center. This will help my students build new vocabulary and comprehension skills. I will use the headphones, to work alongside a computer program called Read Naturally. Listening to fluent reading helps students hear what their voice should sound like. It is very important for an emerging reader to hear the expression and pace of a fluent reader. This modeling helps to build these same skills in the emerging reader. Listening to a story being read helps students concentrate and focus, building their listening skills.
