Do you remember your time in elementary music? Remember the loads of fun you had exploring music through games and instruments? Remember the sheer excitement you had as you discovered pitch and rhythm through hands on experience? My project seeks to give these memories to my students in my classroom and create in them a love for music. The puppets will show students where their voices need to go to match the sequence of pitches they heard. The parachute will provide a whimsical picture of how sound moves up and down like the "Colors of the Wind." Textile bean bags have so many uses, with the most important two being, 1) an interactive way for students to create pitch patterns for their voice to follow and 2) a device for hyper-active students that will help them expend their energy while still learning the secrets of music. Hand bells, rhythm sticks, and egg shakers provide a hands on way to explore rhythm and ensemble skills. Finally, an 8 section junction box will allow me to get my learning centers up and running so that students can receive individualized attention. By donating to this project, you will give my students the opportunity to explore music while creating memories and a love for music that will last a life time. Whether students go on to pursue music after they leave my classroom, they will have learned important lessons that will benefit them wherever they go. And who knows, maybe we will inspire the next Beyonce!
