Most of these students don’t have books to read and practice at home. By having interesting titles that they WANT to read, they will be motivated to read at home as well. Being in a 5th grade elementary classroom with 3 rotations sometimes does not give us as much time as we would like and need for a complete reading workshop. Students need to be reading 30 minutes or more a day to be able to grow their reading skills, expand their vocabulary, and move up on their independent reading levels.
