As we reopen fully to students in 2021, we find dysregulated students who require more time, support, and materials to be able to learn in the classroom. Our students are a lively bunch who are working hard at overcoming the academic, emotional, and sensory deficits left by COVID. Adding these items to our classroom will help my students to have more exposure to hands-on learning and meet their sensory needs. Providing all my students with equal opportunities to explore and access hands-on learning activities with adaptive tools to help them will allow each of them to engage at their own levels. Many of my students are nonverbal and display sensory-seeking behaviors, therefore adding sensory and adaptive tools like the touch and feel books to their learning environment will allow them to be a little more independent in their learning opportunities.
