My students are a lively bunch who are working hard at overcoming the social and language deficits left by COVID. Students are dramatically affected by the emotional impacts of COVID which hit students hard at both home and school. Many students stayed home alone or with younger siblings while parents worked or they experienced dramatic changes as some parents lost jobs. Upon return in fall of 2020, to a hybrid instruction, students' social and emotional state was impacted as they came to school only every other day so they spent time struggling with school work while at home with limited support, only by a computer screen. As we reopen fully to students in 2021, we find dysregulated students who require more time, support, and materials to be able to learn in the classroom and communicate with both staff and their peers.
