Bringing the spirit of the Glasgow Climate Change Conference into my 5th grade science class my students will learn about ecosystems by creating eco-columns. The objective of this science unit is for students to "make models that trace the flow of energy and matter in ecosystems. They investigate the needs of plants and gather evidence that all organisms produce waste. They will explain how animals depend upon one another as components in an interconnected system" and the impact humans have on this natural balanced system (NGSS). The materials in this project will allow my students to create eco-columns, aquarium ecosystem and a terrarium ecosystem in order study ecosystems.
