You can't teach how to curl hair with out a curling iron. My students have a desire to learn but have little to no tools to help them learn. Last year I started hosting an activity after school twice a week where students that were interested in the future of cosmetology would come and get some hands on practice. We were using only the tools I personally own. I only have a couple curling irons so many students sat and watched. Once a curling iron or straightener was used it had to be properly sanitized. Because of this sharing was impossible. Slowly students stopped showing up because the lack of being able to actively participate. If we were able to get more tools we could have more student engagement. There would be less need to share hot tools and students could use actual brushes to do makeup application.
