Third grade is an important year for mathematics, they are introduced to multiplication, division, and fractions. These can be abstract concepts that are better developed with concrete models. Manipulatives are a necessary tool for students to progress through the stages of concrete, pictorial, and abstract understanding. These resources will help my students engage with hands-on learning to make connections that might be difficult otherwise. For example, fractions are much easier to understand when you can see and touch the parts. These manipulatives will build confidence in my students and create a positive relationship with math.
