My seniors have had a hard time buying into reading for fun. At this point in the semester, they have grown excited to see where we are headed. I hope this classic will send them off to a joyful winter break. Although my students appreciate culturally responsive texts, they have asked (on multiple occasions) to read "the classics." This novel not only opens a door to a time period they may not be familiar with, but can ignite their interest in older literature. I hope my students can return to this novel long after they have graduated.
