The wide range of materials that I have selected will positively impact the development of the whole child in my kindergarten classroom. My students will be able to use these materials to practice concepts and skills in math, literacy, language and vocabulary, fine motor development, and social/emotional health which will help them become well-rounded citizens and students. Well-developed social/emotional skills have a definite, positive impact on student focus and potential success in learning academic content. Due to COVID, many of my students were not able to interact with peers and others outside of their family context. Navigating the school environment with its rules and procedures is new and challenging to our youngest learners. I have selected materials with a high engagement factor which will make learning exciting and interesting throughout each day. The math and literacy materials each do double duty by also supporting fine motor development. The fine motor materials also support science and engineering (STEM) concepts. The role play materials will help my students develop social skills and self-control that will make life kinder and also promote focus for when we work on academic content.
