I am requesting books to enhance our classroom library and for students to check out for at home reading. This is a project facilitated by Mrs. Jackie Jackon, RTI Facilitator. Our school is in desperate need of authentic literature, poetry and non-fiction books in our classrooms. We want to provide our students with a variety of books to have in the classrooms, for students to check out to read at home, and read in class. In addition to that, we don't have a media center or library to fill that need. COVID has created significant gaps in reading and we want to close those gaps with the funding from this grant. Students will be able to practice fluency skills, apply phonics lessons and expand their reading comprehension skills. Having authentic literature in the class will also provide mentor texts for writing lessons. Students will not only be able to read the text, but they can learn from published authors and apply those skills to their own writing. The success of this project will be measured by reviewing student reading growth as measured by the MAP assessment as well as SBAC scores in grades 3-6. We will also assess engagement and interests by collecting data on the amount of books checked out and the types of books students are interested in.
